A good label saves a second trip through the house. Before you start filling totes, decide where each group of belongings should go in the new place. Label for the destination room, even if that differs from where the items live today. Everyone helping you move can then follow the same plan.
Give each tote a clear destination.
Use a removable label on a visible side. Write the room in large letters, followed by a few words about the contents. Add a number if you want a simple inventory: “Kitchen 04 — plates and bowls” is easier to find than “Miscellaneous.” Keep a matching list on your phone or paper, especially for a larger move.
- Use the same room names on every label.
- Mark fragile contents clearly without assuming a label replaces protective packing.
- Mark essential totes “Open first” so they can be set aside.
- Avoid putting sensitive details on labels visible outside your home.
Pack for carrying, not just for capacity.
Distribute dense items across multiple totes, and keep each load manageable for the people who will carry it. Place heavier belongings low in the tote and cushion fragile pieces individually. Fill loose gaps so items have less room to shift, but leave enough clearance for the matching lid to close normally. Follow the equipment’s confirmed load and stacking limits.
Do not force a lid onto an overfilled tote. Set oversized objects aside for an appropriate packing method. Keep items dry and avoid open liquids or anything that could spill onto other belongings. Ask about acceptable contents if an item needs special handling.
Keep the removable lids with the right totes.
Our black totes use separate yellow lids. While packing, keep unused lids in one place rather than spreading them through different rooms. Close and check each tote before it is moved. At the destination, choose one location for the empty totes and lids so everything is easy to count before collection.
Make the first night easy.
Pack the items you need immediately in a clearly marked essentials tote or a bag you keep with you. Consider bedding, basic toiletries, a change of clothes, chargers, and a few kitchen necessities. Keep medicines, important documents, valuables, and anything needed during the trip under your own care.
Prepare for unloading before loading.
Share the room labels with your movers or helpers. Keep routes through both homes clear and use any rented handcart according to its supplied instructions. You or your movers transport the packed belongings; our service covers empty-equipment delivery and pickup after unpacking.
Check the delivery and pickup checklist before each appointment. When your packing list changes, contact us about equipment availability instead of assuming additional totes will be available on moving day.
